As electric vehicles grow rapidly in China, fire accidents have also increased. In 2021, approximately 3,000 electric vehicle fires were reported in China, and the number continues to rise. By Q1 of 2023, the cases increased by another 8% compared with the same period the previous year.

Lithium batteries are highly sensitive to heat and can easily go into thermal runaway. Once it happens, the fire spreads quickly from inside to outside, burns at very high temperatures, lasts long, and may re-ignite or explode. For this reason, traditional extinguishing agents often work poorly or even fail on lithium battery fires.

Such fires can quickly ignite nearby cars or equipment, creating chain-reaction fires and causing major losses. Today, specialized car fire blankets are widely regarded as one of the best solutions for electric-vehicle fire emergencies.

Suntex is a leading company in China’s high-temperature fire-resistant fiber industry, with strong manufacturing capability, an advanced R&D and testing center, and multiple patents. We have remained a top exporter for many years.

In 2020, we worked with European partners to develop a car fire blanket for vehicles, designed for car-carrying ships on Baltic routes. After entering Europe, local distributors conducted real vehicle tests, which performed well, and the product was adopted by local fire rescue departments.

In 2025, we worked with the China Fire Research Institute (Sichuan) to verify and improve the blanket’s flame resistance, heat insulation, smoke blocking, and blast resistance. Tests show that the Suntex car fire blanket remains intact under 1,200°C flames, effectively blocks fire and air, reduces smoke, and withstands certain explosion forces.

The blanket is easy to use and quickly limits the fire to a small area, giving firefighters 20–60 minutes of critical rescue time and greatly reducing property damage. The material withstands 1,000°C for long periods, and tests at Hainan University show it can resist 8 atmospheres of pressure at 800°C. This model can control the fire for 40–60 minutes, giving responders much more time.

Through joint efforts by Suntex and the China Fire Research Institute (Sichuan), Suntex car fire blankets have undergone rigorous tests on battery cells, battery packs, e-bikes, and electric cars. The results confirm that Suntex car fire blankets provide fire control, heat insulation, smoke suppression, and blast resistance. They support the “control first, extinguish later” rescue principle and are one of the best solutions for chain-reaction fires in electric vehicles today.
