Solvay has added a new heat-resistant and flame-retardant liquid crystal polymer (LCP) to its product portfolio, which is designed to meet critical safety requirements for electric vehicle battery components. The new material, Xydar LCP G-330 HH, is particularly suitable for battery module plates in electric vehicle models that use high-voltage systems. The new material can maintain electrical insulation at 400°C for 30 minutes, and it does not require the use of halogen or bromide additives. In addition, it is easy to process and can achieve thinner components compared to traditional battery module insulation materials. Successful tests have been conducted on this material. Automakers’ protective measures should give occupants enough time to leave the vehicle as battery components must withstand high temperatures for up to 15 minutes.
