Choosing the right welding blanket involves considering several factors to ensure it meets your specific needs and provides the necessary protection.

Importance of welding blankets

When it comes to welding, safety should always be the number one priority. A high-quality welding blanket can provide heat resistance, fire protection, and insulation, ensuring a safe work environment and preventing accidents.

Welding blankets are designed to withstand high temperatures generated during welding processes. They act as a shield, protecting nearby objects and individuals from sparks, spatter, and molten metal. Additionally, welding blankets serve as a barrier against heat transfer, preventing damage to surrounding surfaces and materials.

Investing in a reliable welding blanket not only keeps you safe but also helps you comply with safety regulations. Whether you’re working in a professional setting or a personal workshop, using a welding blanket is essential for maintaining a secure and efficient work environment.

Types of welding blankets

1. Silicone Coated Welding Blankets: These blankets feature a silicone coating that provides enhanced heat resistance and protection against sparks, splatter, and molten metal. They are flexible and durable, making them suitable for high-temperature welding applications.

2. PU Coated Welding Blankets: Welding blankets with a polyurethane (PU) coating offer increased resistance to heat, flames, and abrasion. They are often used in welding operations that involve heavy sparks or prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

3. Aluminum Coated Welding Blankets: These blankets have an aluminum coating that reflects heat and provides excellent protection against radiant heat and molten metal splash. They are commonly used in applications where heat insulation is crucial.

4. Vermiculite Coated Welding Blankets: Vermiculite-coated blankets have a vermiculite treatment that enhances their resistance to heat, flames, and molten metal. They offer excellent thermal insulation and are suitable for heavy-duty welding operations.

5. Silica Fabric Welding Blankets: Welding blankets made from silica fabric provide high-temperature resistance and exceptional protection against sparks, splatter, and molten metal. They are commonly used in demanding welding applications.

6. Acrylic Coated Welding Blankets: These blankets have an acrylic coating that improves their resistance to heat, flames, and sparks. They are lightweight, flexible, and provide reliable protection for various welding tasks.

Factors to consider when choosing a welding blanket

Beside materials of welding blanket, there are some factors you should consider also when you are choosing a welding blanket.

1. Size
Normally, there are 2 types for blanekt, by peice or roll.

Roll: 1x25m, 1x50m

Piece: 1x1m, 1x2m, 2x2m, 2x3m, 3x4m, 6x8m, 6x9m, etc

2. Slevedges

Hemming for a blanket refers to the process of folding and sewing the edges of the fabric to create a finished, secure edge.

Binding for a blanket refers to a strip of fabric that is used to encase and secure the raw edges of the blanket.

Grommets are small metal or plastic rings that are often used for reinforcement and to create a secure opening in blankets.

Magnets are only use for special applications, like car welding or iron etc.

Additional accessories

Tape, for big size blanket, it’s better to use a tape to grip. It can help user to expand blanket soon.

High temperature sewing thread. For high temperature application, sewing thread of blanket should be good enough to resist high temperature.
